• IS PAAR SE US PAAR

    ABOUT:

Bridges have known to serve humans right from 850 BC when the first bridge was constructed in Turkey. And recently we saw China inaugurate the world’s longest sea bridge in 2018! India too is home to the few of the most magnificent bridges in the world. These bridges have not only been helping us cross barriers of sea and mountains, but they are also a part of our famous saying “Bridge the communication gap!”
These bridges come in various structural designs meant to very majestically serve a particular function, suit a unique geology, justify the local materials and the funds available and bring pride to the country who built it.

    Date: 19th Feb, 2020

No. of Participants per group: 04

    RULES:

    1. This event is not on the spot event but you have to come with your Bridge Structure and we will judge using below criteria and winner of this event get tremendous price money.

      1. Types of Bridges: Participants can make either of the following bridges and will get bonus points as follows if all dimension or instruction given will satisfy:
Simply Supported Bridge – 2 points.
        Arch bridge – 5 points.
        Cantilever bridge – 7 points.

      2. Materials: Use Popsicle Sticks. Sticks can have the following maximum dimensions:

        • Length = 11 cm.

        • Width = 1.2 cm.

        • Thickness= 0.2 cm.

        • Sticks can be altered physically by cutting or notching at any angle.

        • Only Fevicol can be used as an adhesive, use of other adhesives may lead to disqualification.

        • Use of threads shall also lead to disqualification (except in cantilever bridge.

      3. Dimensions of Bridge: The Popsicle Bridge dimensions should be within the specified limits as below:

        Length
        1. Overall length from one extreme end to another L = 100 to 120 cm.

        2. Minimum Clear distance between two columns L1 = 80 cm.

        Width

Width of the Span B =10 to 11 cm.

        Height

        1. Minimum height from ground level to top of the deck H = 28cm.

        2. Minimum height of column from GL to bottom of deck h1= 18cm.

        3. h2 = 7cm*.

        4. Maximum depth of deck h3 =12 cm.

*size of footing must be 10*10*7 cubic cm

Weight of the bridge must be 5kg or less.

      JUDGING CRITERIA:

      • Round 1: Interview or presentation of bridge made by you.

      • Round 2: weight of bridge check by us.

      • Round 3: Check all dimension of bridge as per rules/instruction given above.

      • Round 4: Weight carries by bridge and simultaneously measure deflection of bridge.

      • NOTE:

        1. In interview or presentation you don’t have to come with any PPT or any other material but you have to explain your bridge structure and give simple answers of our question based on bridge engineering.

        2. Load apply at L1/2 and Deflection of bridge will be measure at Center in simply supported and arch bridge, where in cantilever bridge deflection measure at free end .

        3. All dimension will be check or Measure at left end, centre of bridge and at right end

        4. If point will be same of 2 or more group then aesthetic view of bridge will be consider and add 2 points

Point (P) = Presentation Mark + Wc*h1/w*h3*d + bonus point for type of bridge + Aesthetic point (if applicable)

Wc = weight carried by bridge in Kg

W = weight of bridge in Kg

h1 = minimum height of column from GL to bottom of deck in cm

h3 = maximum depth of deck in cm

          d = deflection in cm
